Agentic AI Cyberattack: Taiwan's Systems Compromised

Taiwan's Ministry of Digital Affairs confirmed a near-autonomous AI cyber attack in July 2026. This attack involved autonomous agents mapping 21 government systems and compromising 85 accounts. This validates findings from Tenable's Research Special Operations team, which has been tracking seven incidents and three threat actors in an agentic AI threat cluster since late July 2026. The attack confirms that near-autonomous offensive AI is now an operational reality, not just a theoretical risk. Here's the thing: the global cybersecurity market is projected to reach 338 billion dollars by 2029. Yet, only 47% of organizations feel very confident in detecting a significant incident. This gap highlights a serious challenge. Exposure management vendors with dedicated AI threat intelligence are now in a key position as organizations work to build defenses against these autonomous threats.
