Agentic AI Governance: Build It In, Not On

Governing Agentic AI at scale requires building governance in from the start, not adding it later. This is a key lesson from organizations moving beyond initial AI pilots. Many are now managing a growing number of AI tools across different teams and functions. Without clear governance and ownership, this complexity can quickly become unmanageable. For example, one company observed that long-term success with AI depends on governance, not just the technology itself. They achieved this by establishing controls and accountability early on. This approach led to over 5,000 colleagues having access to Copilot, generating around 350,000 interactions monthly and delivering approximately 19,000 hours of Copilot-assisted productivity. They also developed capabilities like an AI Catalyst Lab and a responsible AI governance framework. The bottom line is that successful Agentic AI adoption needs an operating model, not just a technology strategy. This is crucial for safely and reliably delivering value from AI.
