AI Agents Reshape Cybersecurity: IT Skills Shift

AI agents are changing cybersecurity threats, requiring enterprises to rethink IT job roles and reprioritize skills. This means 78% of cybersecurity jobs now require AI skills, showing AI literacy is quickly becoming a baseline expectation for hiring. What's interesting is that critical gaps exist in areas like generative AI, large language models, prompt engineering, AI ethics, and AI security. The AI Workforce Consortium, which includes companies like Cisco and Google, found that the share of G7 cybersecurity postings requiring AI skills doubled to 28.5% between October 2025 and March 2026. An "agentic skill stack" is emerging for high-volume cybersecurity roles. This includes skills in Python, prompt and context engineering, AI security, agent orchestration, and machine learning operations. The report emphasizes that AI skills are not new, but the emergence of agents built on large language models has made them pervasive, shifting demand from building models to directing and verifying them.
