AI Agents: The "Everything Agent" Redefining Software Dev

Artificial intelligence is now writing most of its own software for companies like Anthropic. This includes the code within Claude Code itself. What's interesting is that OpenAI is also pushing its Codex agent into companies like Dell and Ramp. This suggests a clear trend: handing coding tasks to AI agents has become common practice in a short period. At a developer event, an engineer asked how many people had shipped a code update written entirely by Claude, and about half the hands went up. Most of those people admitted they didn't even read the code first. The term "coding agents" might be misleading. These AI agents are not just writing code faster. They are general agents that can define a goal, break it down, use tools, check their own work, and iterate until a solution is found. Code is simply the clearest way to demonstrate this process. One Anthropic lead states that Claude is comparable to a mid-level engineer at writing code today. The ultimate goal is for Claude to essentially be able to build itself. The bottom line is that the gap between having an idea and creating a working product is rapidly shrinking, even for those who don't write code.
