AI Cyber Risks: Asia-Pacific Unprepared for Attacks

AI-driven cyberattacks are a growing threat in the Asia-Pacific region, but many organizations are not ready to defend against them. A new study reveals that 65 percent of IT and security decision-makers in Singapore and Australia expect an AI-enabled attack within the next year. Here's the thing: nearly 80 percent are concerned about AI being used as an attack method. However, 60 percent admit they are not fully prepared for AI-driven threats that target human weaknesses. The study also found that insider threats and user errors are leading causes of cybersecurity incidents. Organizations estimate the average cost of a single insider breach at $13.1 million. What's interesting is that 66 percent of respondents believe employees are likely to be tricked by AI social engineering attacks. Yet, only 40 percent of organizations provide training on using AI safely. Globally, 55 percent use AI for threat detection, but only 44 percent train employees to recognize AI-enabled attacks. This creates a significant gap between awareness and action. The bottom line is that this disconnect leaves organizations more vulnerable to sophisticated attacks.
