AI Floods Security: Critical Vulnerabilities Double, 1 in 12 Urgent

New research reveals a significant increase in critical vulnerability exposures for security teams. The 2026 Exposure Gap Report found that critical vulnerability exposures more than doubled over the past year. What's interesting is that fewer than one in twelve of these alerts actually require immediate action. The report highlights that 42.6% of all critical exposures were vulnerabilities, a sharp rise from 18.7% a year ago. However, only 7.8% of these vulnerability alerts needed Critical or High attention after validation. Automation and AI-assisted attack tools are enabling threat actors to test systems faster. Phishing websites also saw a sharp increase, growing to 10.5% of critical exposures from 1.0% a year earlier. The bottom line is that security teams need to prioritize effectively to address genuinely exploitable risks.
