AI Frontier: Karpathy, Google, Colossus & IPO Wave

The next AI frontier could be capital structuring, according to a recent report. The last three weeks have seen a significant rearrangement in frontier AI, affecting organizational charts and capital tables. Google set a new tone at I/O, introducing what they call the "agentic Gemini era." Gemini Omni is a new generative model focused on video, showing advances in multimodal editing. More notably, Gemini 3.5 Flash, paired with Google Antigravity, offers an agent-first development platform. Google now has a vertically integrated agentic pipeline, from silicon to development tools. On May 19, Andrej Karpathy joined Anthropic. He will work on pretraining, building a team to use Claude to accelerate pretraining research. This move is seen as a significant step in AI self-improvement. This hire follows Anthropic gaining full access to xAI's Colossus 1 on May 6. This compute power includes over 300 megawatts, with approximately 220,000 GPUs. The cost for this access is around $1.25 billion per month through May 2029, totaling roughly $45 billion. This development matters because it signals a shift in how AI companies are structuring their resources and partnerships, potentially impacting the future of AI development.
