AI in Education: Google, Microsoft & ChatGPT Updates

Educators are seeing significant new AI updates as they head back into the classroom. What's interesting is the shift from AI as a separate tool to AI integrated directly into educational workspaces. For example, Gemini is now available within Google Classroom. It can use class materials and data as context, helping students create flashcards, quizzes, and study guides from teacher-selected resources. This August rollout makes Gemini more useful for students by understanding specific assignments and sources. Microsoft is also integrating AI with its Copilot learning system. It offers a learning coach for students aged 13 and over with questions, flashcards, and quizzes. Copilot also helps educators create draft unit plans, including essential questions and assessments. Teachers can even set AI guidelines for assignments, from no AI use to full Copilot Chat. This feature is live at no extra cost with Microsoft 365 Education. Finally, ChatGPT has a new K12 Educator plugin. This allows teachers to create resources, practice tests, and assignment translations without building complex workflows. These updates aim to make AI a more seamless part of the teaching and learning process.
