AI Security: Chaotic Lasers Replace Passwords

A new AI security system uses chaotic lasers to create authentication credentials, moving beyond traditional passwords. This system generates unique hardware fingerprints in real time from the physical behavior of a laser. What's interesting is that it uses compact semiconductor lasers, called VCSELs, which produce complex and unpredictable light patterns. An AI model then analyzes these patterns to verify legitimate devices. The system is also incredibly fast, achieving response rates over 500 gigabits per second and generating keys in about 10 nanoseconds. It's also very energy efficient. The bottom line is that this dynamic, hardware-based authentication could make it much harder to clone or steal credentials, offering a more secure way to protect our increasingly connected world.
