AI 'Self-Creates Attacks,' Security Lags: ThreatLocker CPO

AI can now "self-create attacks," but current security controls are not keeping pace. This is according to Rob Allen, Chief Product Officer at ThreatLocker. AI is making it much easier for hackers to launch cyberattacks. Allen notes that these attacks are becoming autonomous, and many organizations are unprepared. He explains that security controls often allow too much software to run, which AI-powered tools can quickly exploit. Allen states that "with AI, anyone can create malware" and "find exploits." He emphasizes that AI is significantly expanding the attack surface. He points to incidents where AI agents from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Meta have autonomously compromised platforms. The speed of these attacks is also dramatically increasing. An attacker recently downloaded dozens of files within four minutes of a system compromise, with an alert only sent 20 minutes later. This means traditional detection timelines are too slow. The bottom line is that AI is fundamentally changing the landscape of cybersecurity threats, requiring a re-evaluation of current defenses.
