AI Weapons Detection: Illinois Hospital Boosts Safety

An Illinois healthcare network is enhancing security by using an AI weapons detection system. This system has intercepted dozens of illegal firearms and knives. Rising workplace violence is pushing medical providers towards automated safety solutions. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that nearly 73% of non-fatal workplace violence happens in healthcare. This has led nearly 60% of nurses to consider leaving their jobs. In response, an Illinois healthcare group deployed an AI-driven concealed weapons detection system called the Apollo 500. This technology screens visitors at entrances for hidden firearms and blades without slowing down foot traffic. In its first month, the system detected nine firearms and four knives. Over one year, it stopped more than 20 firearms and nearly 180 knives. Internal surveys showed a big jump in worker confidence. Before the system, 17% of employees felt safe; afterward, 68% did. This technology aims to make healthcare facilities safer for everyone.
