Alibaba's Wan3.0 AI: Video Generation & Rising Costs

Alibaba has unveiled Wan3.0, a new artificial intelligence model designed for video generation. This launch follows the company's announcement of a $10 billion share offering to help finance rising AI costs. Wan3.0 can create videos up to 30 seconds long. It generates these videos from various sources like documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and web pages. The public beta version of the model launched on August 6. Since then, it has been used to create short dramas, films, advertising materials, tourism promotions, and music videos. Alibaba's $10 billion share sale was the largest primary follow-on offering among companies listed in Hong Kong. The company also recently reported a 75% year-on-year decline in quarterly profit, which it linked to increased capital expenditures for artificial intelligence. This shows the significant investment now going into AI development.
