Alibaba's Zhenwu M890: New AI Chip Challenges Nvidia

Alibaba has unveiled its new AI chip, the Zhenwu M890, which offers triple the performance of its predecessor. This chip is designed for memory-intensive AI tasks and features 144 gigabytes of GPU memory. Alibaba has already shipped 560,000 Zhenwu units to over 400 customers across 20 industries. This move aims to boost Alibaba's standing in China's growing AI processor market. The company also announced it will soon launch its next AI model, Qwen3.7-Max. Alibaba expects its AI models and applications to generate 30 billion yuan in recurring revenue by year-end. However, one analyst notes that Alibaba's new chip still trails leading Western rivals in memory capacity and bandwidth. This news highlights the intensifying competition in the global AI technology race.
