Altman: Elon Musk Wanted OpenAI for His Children

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, says Elon Musk tried to gain control of the company, even suggesting it could pass to his children. This testimony came during a trial over Musk's lawsuit against OpenAI. Altman stated that Musk supported OpenAI becoming a for-profit entity and wanted long-term control. He recalled Musk suggesting the company become a subsidiary of Tesla. Altman also mentioned a moment where Musk said, if he had control, it should pass to his children after his death. Altman, along with co-founders Greg Brockman and Ilya Sutskever, decided against giving Musk such control. He said they were "extremely uncomfortable" with one person controlling artificial general intelligence. Musk had co-founded OpenAI but left its board in 2018.
