Amazon CartShare: AI Fails to Build Missing Feature

A parent attempted to build a missing Amazon shopping feature using AI after their 12-year-old son noticed it. The son wanted to share the contents of his Amazon cart with a friend for school supplies, but found no direct way to do so for consumers. While Amazon Business accounts have a "Share Cart" feature, regular users can only share "Lists," which requires extra steps. The parent used ChatGPT to create "CartShare," a website with a Chrome extension. The idea was for the extension to read cart items, generate a private link, and allow a friend to view those items. CartShare successfully displayed products and quantities through a shareable link without needing personal Amazon details. However, the one-click transfer of these items into another Amazon cart did not work, resulting in an Amazon error. This highlights the potential and current limitations of AI in solving everyday tech frustrations.
