Amazon CEO Triggered Anthropic AI Ban: National Security

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy reportedly triggered a global shutdown of Anthropic's Mythos AI models. Sources indicate Jassy told Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent that Amazon researchers used a model, Fable 5, to get information usable in cyberattacks. Anthropic disabled access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 after the government directed them to bar foreign nationals from the systems for national security reasons. The Information and Reuters also reported these concerns, linking them to Amazon, a major investor in Anthropic. David Sacks, co-chair of the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, stated on X that a trusted partner found a "jailbreak" in Fable. Sacks wrote that the administration asked Anthropic to fix it or de-deploy the model, but Anthropic refused. Anthropic previously said the capabilities causing concern are available in other public AI models. This situation highlights ongoing tensions between AI development and national security.
