Android 17: Gemini AI, Multitasking & Pixel Updates

Google has released the final version of its Android 17 operating system and Wear OS 7 for smartwatches. This update arrives first on Pixel devices and includes a Pixel Drop with new AI features. What's interesting is that Android 17 showcases Google's latest AI technology, like the music-generation model Lyria 3 and the multimodal Gemini Omni. Gemini Omni will now allow video editing within a conversation, and Lyria 3 lets users create music tracks from text or images in the Gemini app. Pixel 10a devices also get improved speech-to-speech translation tools with AudioLM. The Pixel Drop also brings emergency detection to the Google Pixel Watch. It can contact emergency services if it detects a car crash, fall, or lack of pulse. Beyond AI, Android 17 introduces a "bubble bar" for organizing recent apps and a new feature for recording screen reaction videos using the selfie camera and phone screen simultaneously. Parental controls and security features are also improved, including a "Mark as Lost" feature and Live Threat Detection.
