Anthropic: $1.5B Copyright Settlement Approved in AI Case

A U.S. federal court has approved a record-breaking $1.5 billion settlement in a copyright dispute against artificial intelligence company Anthropic. Authors and publishers had accused Anthropic of misusing their books to train its AI chatbot, Claude. This is the largest known settlement in a U.S. copyright case and the first major AI copyright dispute resolved before trial. Affected authors and publishers will receive $3,000 per work, covering roughly 500,000 works. The court also approved over $101 million in legal fees.
