Anthropic Accuses Alibaba of "Industrial Scale" AI Theft

US artificial intelligence giant Anthropic is accusing Chinese firm Alibaba of illicitly extracting its AI capabilities. Anthropic states that operators linked to Alibaba conducted almost 29 million exchanges with its Claude AI model. This was done using thousands of fraudulent accounts. What's interesting is Anthropic calls this the largest extraction campaign of its kind. They say these "distillation attacks" aim to extract answers from a stronger AI model to train a weaker one. Anthropic claims Alibaba-linked operators targeted Claude's ability to handle complex tasks and its decision-making processes. Anthropic believes these attacks are on an "industrial scale." The company urged Congress to penalize those behind such actions and to prevent US tech from being stolen.
