Anthropic AI: US Gov Blocks Claude Fable & Mythos 5

Anthropic has revoked access to its new AI models, Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5, just days after their release. The company stated this was due to a government export control directive. This directive demanded the suspension of access for all foreign nationals. Because Anthropic cannot limit access to only Americans, this directive effectively banned the technology. News reports indicate that Amazon CEO Andy Jassy alerted the Trump Administration to potential vulnerabilities in Anthropic's models. Amazon reportedly found ways to bypass Fable's guardrails. This allowed access to powerful cybersecurity capabilities. Anthropic's CEO, Dario Amodei, defended the guardrails and argued against the administration's concerns. However, officials were unmoved and implemented export controls. This is the second time the Trump Administration has taken action against Anthropic. In February, the Defense Department declared Anthropic a supply chain risk. The bottom line is that a power struggle between a major tech company and the government is impacting access to new AI technology.
