Anthropic CEO: AI Jobs Reckoning & $200M Research Pledge

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei warns that the rapid adoption of AI could lead to economic fallout faster than many realize. He remains concerned about the labor market consequences of advanced AI. He says if AI automates 90% of a job, people become more leveraged in the remaining 10%. But eventually, jobs could be almost 100% automated, requiring people to find new roles. Anthropic's research suggests management, finance, and legal professions will be most affected soon. In response, the company pledged $200 million to study AI's impact on jobs and the economy. Amodei has also suggested solutions like better data collection, pro-employment policies, and even universal basic income, potentially funded by taxes on relevant companies or capital gains. This matters because it highlights a major AI developer's concerns about the future of work.
