Anthropic Claude Sonnet 5: Cheaper, Smarter AI Agents

Anthropic has launched Claude Sonnet 5, which is now the default model for its Free and Pro plans. This new model is also available for Max, Team, and Enterprise plans. What's interesting is its pricing. Through August 31st, it costs $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens. After that, the standard price will be $3 per million input tokens and $15 per million output tokens. Sonnet 5 is designed to be Anthropic's most "agentic" Sonnet model yet, performing closer to their high-end Opus models. It shows substantial improvements over its predecessor in reasoning, tool use, coding, and knowledge work. Separately, Anthropic also introduced Claude Science, an AI workbench for scientists. This app integrates common scientific tools, produces auditable results, and offers flexible access to computing resources. It aims to bring fragmented tools into a single research environment. This allows scientists to analyze literature, conduct multi-step research, and refine figures and manuscripts. Every output includes an auditable history for validation and reproduction. The bottom line is Anthropic is expanding its AI offerings, making advanced models more accessible and tailoring tools for specific professional fields like science.
