Anthropic Fable 5 Release: US Gov't Cooperation Mandated

Anthropic can now release its Fable 5 AI model globally. This follows a brief suspension due to US export controls. What's interesting is that access to another model, Mythos 5, will remain strictly regulated. The company faced interruptions on June 12th because of these controls and difficulties verifying user nationality. Anthropic has presented a plan to resume operations. This involves new security mechanisms and closer cooperation with government agencies. Fable 5 becomes available worldwide starting July 1, 2026, across various platforms. Users on specific plans will receive usage quotas. Cloud providers like AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Foundry will integrate Fable 5 "as quickly as possible." However, Mythos 5, which has specialized cybersecurity capabilities, will initially only be re-enabled for certain US organizations. Further access will be controlled through the "Glasswing program" in coordination with the US government. The return of these models depends on improved safety measures. This is due to a report indicating Fable 5's safety barriers could be bypassed. Anthropic has implemented new AI-based filters to block this technique in over 99% of cases. They've also increased safety margins, which may lead to more "false positives," blocking legitimate requests. The bottom line is that Anthropic is committing to closer cooperation with the government and competitors to develop a unified industry framework.
