Anthropic & FIS Launch AI Agent for Financial Crime

FIS is partnering with Anthropic to launch a new Financial Crimes AI Agent for anti-money laundering investigations. This new system aims to reduce investigation times from hours to minutes. Here's how it works: the agent automatically gathers evidence from banking systems, checks activity against known money laundering patterns, and flags high-risk cases for human review. BMO and Amalgamated Bank will be among the first institutions to use this agent, with wider availability expected in the second half of 2026. What's interesting is that FIS is combining its banking infrastructure and transaction data with Anthropic's Claude AI models. Client data will remain within FIS-controlled infrastructure. Anthropic's Head of Financial Services, Jonathan Pelosi, stated that FIS chose Claude because of its ability to reason through complex investigations accurately and explain its work. The bottom line: this collaboration marks a step towards a new era in banking, where AI agents could independently handle more regulated operations.
