Anthropic: Free Claude AI for US K-12 Teachers

Anthropic is now offering its premium Claude AI for free to all verified U.S. K-12 teachers. This is not a basic chatbot, but the same agentic platform used for Claude Code and Cowork. Teachers can sign up before June 30, 2027, for a full year of access at no cost. This offering includes a curriculum database covering every academic standard in all 50 states. It also features nine edtech platform integrations and FERPA-aligned data terms, developed with the American Federation of Teachers. What's interesting is Claude for Teachers uses a standards-aligned data layer called Learning Commons. This helps it understand what a teacher is working toward before generating content. It maps academic standards to learning competencies and developmental order. Trusted open curricula, like OpenSciEd and IM v.360, are also accessible. This design is supported by research, showing that AI tools with pedagogical guardrails have more promising outcomes than general-purpose chatbots. This matters because it provides teachers with a specialized AI tool designed to support their specific instructional needs.
