Anthropic's Claude Opus 5: Cheaper, Better AI Model

Anthropic has announced its newest artificial intelligence model, Claude Opus 5. The company states it is their best-performing and most cost-effective offering. Opus 5 outperforms the previous model, Claude Fable 5, in coding and knowledge tasks. It is also half the price, costing users $5 per million input tokens and $25 per million output tokens. Anthropic says Opus 5 is designed for everyday use, but it is not intended for risky capabilities like cybersecurity. This launch comes as businesses are looking for value in AI models. Anthropic's head of product management for research, Dianne Penn, highlights that enterprises need quality alongside affordability. The company previously faced scrutiny and temporary access restrictions on its Mythos 5 and Fable 5 models due to a government export control directive. Anthropic continues to collaborate with government agencies on pre-deployment and testing for models like Opus 5. This new model aims to address the growing demand for powerful yet affordable AI solutions in the market.
