Anthropic's Claude Sonnet 5: Agentic AI Goes Mainstream

Anthropic has launched Claude Sonnet 5, a new artificial intelligence model designed for developers building autonomous agent systems. This model can plan multi-step tasks, use tools, and operate with less human input. Sonnet 5 is more independent than previous versions. It can interact with web browsers and terminals to complete complex task chains. This new model is rolling out across Anthropic's product suite. It will be the default for Free and Pro users, and also available to Max, Team, and Enterprise customers, as well as through Claude Code and the Claude Platform API. Anthropic states that Sonnet 5 shows fewer undesirable behaviors than Sonnet 4.6. It also has improved resistance to prompt injection attacks and malicious instructions. The company noted that Sonnet 5 was not specifically trained for cybersecurity applications. It performs below its top-tier Opus models on evaluations involving potentially harmful cyber capabilities. This development could mean more sophisticated and independent AI tools becoming widely available.
