Anthropic's Mythos 5 Re-Release: US Gov't Approves Limited Access

The U.S. government is allowing Anthropic to re-release its Mythos 5 model to a limited group of customers and partners. This decision comes after the government previously required Anthropic to shut down access to both Mythos 5 and Fable 5, citing national security concerns. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick stated confidence in the guardrails Anthropic has implemented. About 100 organizations, including government agencies and private companies, will regain access. These organizations will use the model for defensive cyber purposes. Anthropic confirmed this in a post, calling Mythos 5 its strongest cybersecurity model. The company is also discussing restoring access to Fable 5, its mass-consumer model. This development follows OpenAI's announcement of a phased release for its new GPT-5.6 models, a move its CEO called "bad news." This means powerful AI tools are becoming available again for critical infrastructure defense.
