Apple & Alibaba AI: China-Specific Language Model

Apple has developed a China-specific language model with support from Alibaba. This is part of its planned Apple Intelligence rollout in mainland China. The model adds to a localized AI stack. This stack is expected to incorporate Alibaba’s Qwen technology and other domestic AI services. Apple is adapting its generative AI features to Chinese regulatory requirements. Alibaba assisted with the development and training of this model. Earlier reports suggested that Baidu technology might also be part of the broader service. Apple has not yet disclosed how responsibilities will be divided or which Apple Intelligence features each component will support.
