Apple Sues OpenAI: Trade Secret Theft Allegations

Apple is suing OpenAI, alleging the artificial intelligence company orchestrated a campaign to steal trade secrets. The lawsuit, filed in a federal court in San Jose, California, also targets two former Apple employees, Tang Yew Tan and Chang Liu, who now work at OpenAI. Apple claims OpenAI has been aggressively trying to poach its employees and extract confidential information. This is to aid OpenAI in building its own consumer hardware device. Apple states that OpenAI has been stealing trade secrets and confidential information at every level, including from its Chief Hardware Officer. This lawsuit significantly complicates OpenAI’s plans for an anticipated initial public offering. This action highlights escalating tensions between the two companies, despite their 2024 partnership to integrate ChatGPT into Apple products.
