AI is making powerful hacking tools available to people with little cybersecurity knowledge. This is forcing crypto developers to find vulnerabilities before attackers exploit them. A member of the team, Calle, says the group needs to get ahead of attackers as fast as possible. The team has about 20 to 25 volunteers. Many prefer to remain pseudonymous, but others include developers Ben Carmen and Daniela Brozzoni. Calle stresses that the Bitcoin protocol itself is secure, but the concern lies with applications, wallets, and other software built around Bitcoin. The group receives requests for security scans from Bitcoin projects. They also proactively search for vulnerabilities, covering almost the entire significant open-source ecosystem. Their findings are shared with affected developers to improve vulnerability classifications. The team uses Chinese AI models for their security work because American models can block cybersecurity research due to guardrails. This effort is crucial because the security of your Bitcoin transactions depends on the software you use.
