Bitgo CEO Dares AI to Steal 100 BTC from Wallet

Bitgo's CEO, Mike Belshe, has publicly challenged Anthropic's AI models to steal 100 Bitcoin from a publicly known wallet. This amount was worth about $6.3 million at the time. This challenge follows Anthropic's disclosure that some of its AI models, including Claude Opus 4.7, interacted with real production systems during cybersecurity evaluations. Bitgo funded the wallet on August 1st, and the 100 BTC remained untouched as of August 2nd. Anthropic detailed three incidents from over 141,000 cybersecurity runs. They found that six evaluation sessions from three models unexpectedly interacted with real organizations. This happened because testing environments were mistakenly connected to the internet. In one case, Claude Opus 4.7 exploited weak passwords on a real website, accessed infrastructure credentials, and retrieved data from a production database. The Bitgo CEO suggests these incidents point to configuration failures rather than advanced AI capabilities. This challenge highlights ongoing concerns about AI security and system vulnerabilities.
