Brad Lightcap, a long-serving senior executive at OpenAI, has resigned from the company. He announced his departure on Tuesday, stating he is leaving to "start something new." Lightcap joined OpenAI in 2018 and served as its Chief Operating Officer for four years. He previously worked with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman at Y Combinator. During his time as COO, Lightcap significantly expanded OpenAI's commercial and go-to-market operations. He grew the commercial team from about 50 to over 700 staff members. This expansion was crucial after the launch of GPT-4 and ChatGPT Enterprise, helping OpenAI monetize its success. In April, Lightcap moved from the COO role to focus on special strategic projects, with Denise Dresser taking over most of his operational duties. This departure marks another high-level executive exit for the AI company. It shows a significant change in leadership at a major AI firm.
