Bulgaria & Google Cloud: AI National Security in EU

Bulgaria and Google Cloud have partnered to launch one of the first deployments of Google Cloud's Cybershield in the European Union. This new system is a centralized, AI-powered defense for the Bulgarian state. What's interesting is this project creates a federated Security Operations Center. It offers a single, coordinated view of threats across government, designed to eventually include 54 ministries and agencies. This moves security from a decentralized approach to a consolidated one. The system uses Google Cloud Security Operations for analytics, Google Threat Intelligence, and Mandiant's insights. Simeon Kartselyanski, Cyber Security Manager at Information Services, calls it a model for how EU nations can use centralized capabilities against adversaries. Boris Georgiev, Google Cloud's director for Central and Eastern Europe, says the goal is to transform Bulgarian national security into an automated science, using AI to fight AI-powered threats. This matters because it strengthens national security with advanced AI defenses.
