A key AI research leader from ByteDance has announced his departure. Gu Quanquan, who helped oversee the release of the company's flagship AI model, Seed 2.0, shared the news on social media. This development comes as ByteDance aims to monetize its AI offerings, including subscription plans for its consumer AI app, Doubao. Gu joined ByteDance in 2023, initially focusing on AI for science research. He later directed the company's efforts in large language models. Doubao has become a popular consumer AI app with around 336 million monthly active users, integrating Seed 2.0 and Seedance 2.0. This departure could impact ByteDance's ongoing AI development and monetization strategy.
