ByteDance and Alibaba are disabling AI companion features in their Doubao and Qwen platforms. This change comes before new anthropomorphic AI rules take effect in China on July 15, 2026. Here's the thing: Doubao will go offline on July 15, and Qwen will disable humanlike interactive agents and user-created agent functions before that date. Tencent also removed a similar Yuanbao feature in June. These new rules target AI tools that simulate human personalities for emotional companionship.
