Many ChatGPT users are hopeful that the new 5.5 model will bring back the beloved personality of the retired 4o version. OpenAI shut down ChatGPT 4o in February, leaving many of its fans heartbroken. They felt 4o had the best personality among recent models. Subsequent models, like 5.0 and 5.2, were seen as having a more restricted personality, described by some as "paranoid HR managers." Martina Wanis, who uses ChatGPT for both work and personal reflection, found 4o to be an "intelligent partner in crime." OpenAI had previously adjusted 4o to address its overly supportive, or "sycophantic," responses. Now, with 5.5, users are cautiously optimistic about finding that spark again. This matters because the personality of AI models significantly impacts user experience and satisfaction.
