ChatGPT & Banking: Is Financial AI Worth the Risk?

ChatGPT can now analyze your finances if you give it access to your banking information. OpenAI announced this new "personal finance experience," allowing users to ask financial questions based on their actual account and spending data. Some experts warn that this personalized advice might not outweigh the risks of sharing financial details with an AI. The feature connects to over 12,000 financial institutions using Plaid, including bank, savings, and investment accounts. Soon, Intuit will also support account linking. Currently, this preview version is only for ChatGPT Pro users, but OpenAI plans to expand it to Plus subscribers and eventually everyone. Once accounts are synced, you get a dashboard view of spending and net worth. ChatGPT can help set budgets, work toward savings goals, and understand investment risks, but it cannot make transactions or access your bank account numbers. This development could change how many people manage their personal finances.
