ChatGPT Chrome Ext: YouTube & Tab Support Arrives

ChatGPT's Chrome extension now supports YouTube videos, open tabs, and highlighted text. This update makes it easier to use ChatGPT with the web pages you already have open. You can ask about a YouTube video, reference your open tabs, or highlight text on a page and ask questions through Side Chat. This could help when a webpage has a lot of information, allowing you to highlight confusing sections or compare details from different tabs. OpenAI is shifting its browser features into products people already use, like Chrome. However, in one test, summarizing a YouTube video took over a minute and used 2% of the usage limits for a ChatGPT plan. In comparison, Chrome’s built-in Ask Gemini feature was faster and provided more detail. While useful for asking questions about a page or highlighted text, its performance for YouTube summaries may not compete with existing browser tools. This matters because it affects how efficiently you can use AI tools for web browsing tasks.
