ChatGPT for Mac: Apple Messages Plugin & New Features

OpenAI has added an Apple Messages plugin to the ChatGPT desktop app for macOS. This allows ChatGPT Work and Codex to interact with iMessage, SMS, and RCS conversations. The feature is available on all plans for the desktop app. Here's the thing: ChatGPT can read and search your Messages chats and send messages on your behalf through the Apple Messages app. However, it does not allow remote interaction with ChatGPT through Messages. This plugin is currently only for the Apple silicon build of the desktop app. What's interesting is how it handles sending messages. By default, you must approve each message and its recipients before ChatGPT sends it. You can choose to "Allow once" or grant "Always allow sending to this chat" for specific conversations. OpenAI warns that persistent approval removes the final review, so use it carefully. Beyond Messages, the update also brings unified pinned threads across the desktop app and iOS. It also adds read-only Codex thread snapshots and Site co-editing features. This means more integrated and collaborative tools for ChatGPT users.
