ChatGPT for Mac: New Computer History Feature Explained

ChatGPT for Mac now includes a new "Computer History" feature. This update allows the native macOS app to learn and remember everything you do on your Mac, even outside the application itself. The feature builds a searchable timeline of your activity across selected sites and apps. It is off by default for Pro users, who can choose to activate it. Business and Enterprise users need administrator access to enable it. OpenAI states that the Computer History feature temporarily stores interaction events for up to 48 hours. This data is processed on servers to create memories for the app but is not kept after processing and is never used for AI training. The feature does not save screenshots, screen recordings, microphone input, or system audio. It tracks sites and apps to help with tasks like finding recent documents or summarizing daily work.
