ChatGPT for Mac: New "Computer History" Feature & Risks

ChatGPT for Mac will soon offer a new "Computer History" feature. This allows the bot to remember actions you take on your computer. You can ask ChatGPT questions about your recent projects, work patterns, and even automate tasks. For example, you could ask "What was I working on before I took a break?" Computer History notes every click, keystroke, keyboard shortcut, and app switch. It does not take screenshots, record your screen, or use microphones. This feature is opt-in by default, meaning you must manually enable it. You can also choose which apps and sites it tracks and pause data collection at any time. Private browsing is never recorded. However, OpenAI states that Computer History stores some sensitive information without encryption. This means other programs on your Mac could potentially access these files. It also increases your risk of prompt injection attacks. This new feature could significantly change how you interact with your Mac, but it comes with notable security considerations.
