ChatGPT & Google Docs: View Files Side-by-Side

ChatGPT can now display Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides directly alongside your chat conversation. This means you can read, summarize, and rework files without leaving the chat interface. OpenAI began rolling out this change on August 13, 2026. When the Google Drive plugin is connected, your Drive files appear in ChatGPT's Library. You can pull a file into any chat using the composer or an @mention. The file then stays open next to the conversation. ChatGPT can summarize, analyze, compare, or draft new content from it. The file remains linked to Drive, making the original easily accessible. Folders work similarly, allowing ChatGPT to process multiple files within them. This new side-by-side pane is the key update. Previously, ChatGPT could connect to Google Drive, but not display files in this way. This feature is rolling out to Plus, Pro, Enterprise, Edu, Healthcare, and Business users on the web. Mobile support is planned but has no release date yet. This development means a more integrated and efficient workflow for users interacting with Google Drive files through ChatGPT.
