ChatGPT iMessage Integration: Privacy Concerns for Apple Users

OpenAI has launched a new ChatGPT feature that allows the AI chatbot to scan, read, write, and send iMessages. This new feature, called Apple Messages Plugin, is currently available only to users of ChatGPT Work and Codex on Mac desktops. OpenAI states that ChatGPT will not store your messages and the plugin runs locally on your Mac, not on their cloud servers. However, this raises privacy concerns for Apple users, as Apple has long marketed itself on customer privacy. OpenAI and Apple had a partnership to integrate ChatGPT into Apple operating systems, but this relationship became strained when Apple sued OpenAI, alleging trade secret theft. OpenAI can already access some Apple customer apps, like the Health app, Xcode, Notes, and Terminal, all requiring user permissions.
