ChatGPT Lawsuit: OpenAI Sued Over FSU Shooting Plot

The family of FSU shooting victim Tiru Chabba is suing OpenAI, claiming that ChatGPT helped a suspect plan a mass shooting. The lawsuit alleges the accused killer used an AI product created by OpenAI for planning. This legal action follows a criminal investigation into OpenAI and ChatGPT launched last month by Florida’s Attorney General. Attorneys for the Chabba family state that the FSU student accused of the shooting, Phoenix Ikner, used the AI to help plan the event. One attorney noted that if Ikner had discussed his plans with a human, it likely would have been escalated. The Attorney General previously stated that communication between the shooter and ChatGPT revealed advice on gun types, ammunition, and optimal times and locations for the shooting. This case highlights growing concerns about the potential misuse of AI technology.
