ChatGPT Mac Activity Recorder Now in Europe

ChatGPT's new activity recorder for Mac, called Computer History, is now available in Europe. This feature was switched on for the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom on August 20. Here's the thing: Computer History lives in the ChatGPT desktop app for macOS. It collects interaction events like clicks, typing, and app switches, along with text and context from macOS accessibility. It then builds short summaries and a timeline for ChatGPT and the coding agent Codex to use later. Screenshots, microphone, and system audio are not recorded, and private-mode browsing is excluded. What's important to know is that Computer History ships switched off. You must turn it on in the app's settings. You also need a Pro, Business, or Enterprise plan with Memories switched on. For Business and Enterprise users, an administrator must grant access, and each user still needs to opt-in individually. You can pause collection anytime and decide which apps and sites feed the history. OpenAI warns that the files can contain sensitive information and are not encrypted.
