ChatGPT Mac: AI Remembers Your Computer Activity

OpenAI is launching a new feature for Mac users called Computer History. This allows ChatGPT to gather context from your computer's app and browser activity. The opt-in feature is available for ChatGPT Pro, Business, and Enterprise subscribers on macOS. It is not currently available in the European Economic Area, Switzerland, or the UK. Computer History expands what ChatGPT and OpenAI's Codex coding tools understand, moving beyond just chat conversations. Users can control which apps and websites are included or excluded. They can also pause recording, view, or delete stored history. Instead of capturing screenshots, this feature uses macOS accessibility APIs to collect interaction data like typing and clicks. OpenAI then processes this activity into summaries to provide context or create workflows. These summaries are generated in the cloud and stored locally. This matters because it offers a new way for AI to understand and assist users based on their broader computer interactions.
