ChatGPT Mac App: New 'Computer History' Tracks Activity

OpenAI's ChatGPT Mac app now offers a new feature called Computer History. This allows the AI tool to track your Mac activity and use that information to answer questions or automate tasks. Computer History tracks your clicks, typing, app switches, and other movements across allowed apps and websites. It then organizes this information into Memory files and daily summaries for ChatGPT to use. This feature is available for ChatGPT Pro, Business, and Enterprise users and is disabled by default. Users must enable it in the app settings. OpenAI suggests it can help with tasks like summarizing daily work or finding documents. Temporary Memory files are kept for 48 hours, while other details remain until manually deleted. OpenAI notes this new feature replaces an earlier research preview that used screenshots, as Computer History records interaction events and does not capture your screen or audio. However, OpenAI warns that the collected data is not encrypted, meaning other apps and websites on your Mac might access it. This feature is currently available to subscribers in the US and most other regions worldwide, with access for the EEA, UK, and Switzerland coming soon. This could change how you interact with your Mac and manage your daily tasks.
