ChatGPT Memory Upgrade: More Accurate & Personalized AI

OpenAI is launching a major upgrade to ChatGPT's memory, making the system more capable and scalable. This new system helps ChatGPT remember user preferences and project details, providing more relevant responses in future conversations. Here's the thing: memory allows ChatGPT to recall useful details about users, avoiding the need to start every chat from scratch. While previous versions allowed users to explicitly save information or for ChatGPT to curate memories from chat history, this new architecture is more compute-efficient. What's interesting is this new system improves factual recall from 67.9% to 82.8%, and preference adherence from 55.3% to 71.3%. Accuracy over time also improves from 52.2% to 75.1%. Users can now review and update ChatGPT's memories on a new summary page. This improved memory system is available today for ChatGPT Plus and Pro users in the US.
