A product staff member stated this integration allows ChatGPT to read and send messages, analyze conversations, and let users edit messages before they are sent. It's available on all ChatGPT plans through the desktop app, but only works on Macs powered by Apple Silicon. With this, users can ask ChatGPT to find specific conversations, search messages, and summarize chats. It can also draft replies and send messages through the app. The integration accesses iMessage, SMS, and RCS conversations. Users must grant macOS permissions for automation, contacts, and full disk access. Before sending, ChatGPT asks for approval of both the message and recipients. Users can allow automatic sending for specific chats, but OpenAI recommends retaining per-send approval for safety. The tool operates locally on a Mac and relies on existing macOS features. During setup, users are informed that the application will access message history. This expansion is part of OpenAI's broader effort to work with information on users' devices.
